NDP Leader Asking For Changes To Inquiry

Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath says a public inquiry into the safety and security of residents living in long term care homes doesn’t go far enough.

Horwath says the Liberal government has failed to specify key issues that must be included in the mandate.

She says that includes funding levels, staffing levels and practices, regulation, enforcement and inspections as well as the impact of for-profit privatization on care.

Horwath says it fails to address quality of care and minimum standards of direct daily care, capacity, availability and accessibility in all region.

Horwath adds seniors and their loved ones need a full investigation into the long-standing systemic problems that have thrown seniors’ care into crisis.
