NDP Leader Calling For Referendum On Sale Of Hydro One And Other Energy Assets

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says Ontarians deserve their say and that’s why she’s calling for a referendum on the sale of Hydro One.

She has introduced the “The Listening to Ontarians Act” in the Legislature and if passed would apply to any governing party.

Debate on the Legislation is scheduled for June 4th.

Horwath claims Premier Kathleen Wynne wasn’t honest in her election campaign as the sale wasn’t even discussed.

She says the Crown Corporation doesn’t belong to the Liberal party, it belongs to Ontarians.

Horwath adds she’s held dozens of Town Hall meetings on the issue and not one person has agreed with the move.

She notes the province can’t afford to pay the price for Wynne’s scheme to sell-off a portion of Hydro One.

Horwath stresses rates will go up and we will lose over $350-million a year in money for education, health care and infrastructure.
