Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell is calling for a provincial health care strategy for northern Ontario.
This comes following a tour of area First Nations and meetings with health care providers and aboriginal leaders.
Campbell notes diabetes has become rampant and waitlists for children who have experienced trauma have become so long that it effectively shuts the door to effective treatment.
Campbell adds autism care is limited and children with special needs in the Far North are either left to the wayside or removed from their home community.
She notes the north currently has a “patch-work health care system.”
