Premier Doug Ford calls it the “worst political scandal in Ontario’s history”, pledging to get to the bottom of it.
Ford is referring to a new report revealing he is inheriting a $15-billion deficit from the former Liberal government.
He says the first step is forming a parliamentary committee that will have the authority to call witnesses, collect documents and gather evidence.
Ford calls it a bold next step to restore trust in government.
Finance Minister Vic Fedeli calls it an unprecedented scandal in recent Canadian history.
Fedeli says the situation can not be allowed to fester any longer, stressing it’s about transparency and trust.
He has asked for an interim report by November 1st, and a final report by the middle of December.
