Municipal leaders from across the Region have accepted in principal
the creation of a new regional development body.
The body was introduced by the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association at
the annual Kenora District Municipal Association conference in Kenora on the weekend.
NOMA Spokesperson Iain Angus says the agency would provide a single voice for the northwest and identify
economic opportunities to pursue.
The body received a cool reception from some delegates at the
Conference.
Some Councilors and Mayor’s feel the body would be another level of government and
would require thousands of dollars in taxpayer money to fund it.
However, Dryden Mayor Anne Krassilowsky supports the plan stating it will be effective way
to enhance the Region’s economy.
Final approval of the development of the agency will come at the NOMA
Conference in April.
