New Economic model for local cities

The former mayor of Winnipeg thinks towns in northwestern Ontario should embrace new technology to replace jobs in the forest industry and other natural resource based industries.

Glenn Murray was the keynote speaker at a municipal forum in Kenora this week.

He says communities which are thriving in the new economy
have already made the switch from manufacturing to more hi-tech industries.

N006 Q: …that can’t. (23 secs.)

Murray says natural resources will still be important to the region’s economy, but suggests it will be more in terms of tourism than manufacuturing.
