Proposals for a new economy in the northwest

Communities in northwestern Ontario should start thinking about moving away from forestry and lumber and into information technology and cultural tourism.

That was the message presented by former Winnipeg mayor Glen Murray at a municipal forum in Kenora this week.

Murray feels communities in this region have the resources
needed to thrive in the new world economy.

Murray also suggested that municipal involvement in major
civic projects is another good way of building local economies.
