New Hope for Atikokan

Finally some good news for folks in Atikokan.
MGM Electric plans to buy the closed down Fibratech particle-board mill and turn it into a wood-pellet manufacturing facility.
Owner Ed Fukushima says some hurdles still have to be overcome before the mill can re-open.
The new facility, called Atikokan Renewable Fuels, will create 30 jobs at the mill and about 30 in the woodlands operations.
Fukushima says another 30 jobs are to be created at a new plant in Thunder Bay that would manufacture the wood pellet machinery and equipment.
The wood pellets will be used to fuel Atikokan’s power plant, which is being converted from coal to 100% biofuel.
Both operations are expected to be up and running in six months.
