New Indian Affairs Minister Speaks

The fate of the First Nations Governance Act is a bit murky now that Paul Martin is Prime Minister.

Bill C-7 was one of many pieces of Legislation left on the table when Jean Chretien retired.

Andy Mitchell is the new Minister of Indian Affairs and says plans for the next Legislative agenda are still being discussed.

Mitchell says the Ministry has not made any decisions as to how to move forward with the Bill.

He suggests its too important to just let it die and he has brief discussions with Grand Chief Phil Fontaine.

Mitchell was promoted from the junior position of FedNor.
