For the first time in more than 50-years, the McGuinty Government is
updating Legislation looking at Ontario’s Provincial Parks.
The Parks and Conservation Reserves Act was given first reading last
week.
Evan Ferrari is with the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society and
says the Bill modernizes the regulations affecting Government Parks no matter how large they are or where they are located.
Ferrari adds the new Bill is a step in the right direction.
He adds he’s pleased the Government has agreed to ban all
industrial activity from Provincial Parks, including mining and logging.
Ferrari says he would still like to see a few changes made to the
Legislation including the protection of parks from being polluted by
neighboring industrial activities.
