New Plan In Place To Formulate Budget In A Timely Manner

The days of tardy municipal budgets appear to be over in Dryden.

A new plan is in place to have all budgets completed by the end of a calendar year.

Finance Chair Norm Bush says they went through a period where they had to scramble and get three years worth of budgets done in one year.

Bush says that doesn’t allow time to put in the proper analysis and scrutiny needed to confidently approve a budget.

He adds it will allow various departments to plan ahead.

The budget process would start in June, with financing estimates and a draft capital program ready for August.

Wages and benefit estimates as well as a draft operating budget would be made available that month as well.

Proposed tax rates, the first draft of the budget and an informational meeting would all take place in October under the plan.

The goal is to gain council approval in late December or early January.

Treasurer and Acting CAO John Cummings is leading the charge to get the City back on track financially.
