Improving care for stroke victims in Northwestern Ontario.
The Meno-Ya-Win Health Center has joined the Ontario Telestroke Network, which allows the Sioux Lookout hospital to have access to a neurologist 24 hours a day, seven days a week through video conferencing.
Vice-President of Clinical Services and Research Barb Linkewich says it saves the patient having to travel to access treatment.
Linkewich adds the neurologist can also recommend treatment options and determine if the patient is eligible for a drug treatment, which can destroy blood clots that cause strokes.
