The new high school in Sioux Lookout won’t be open in time for the start of a new school year.
The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board has been forced to change its occupancy schedule from August 1st to November 1st.
Director of Education Sean Monteith says they will spend November and December ensuring the transition is done smoothly.
Monteith says over the course of those two months, they will start moving all furniture into the new school as well as working with the contractor to address potential deficiencies.
He adds the goal now is to have the school officially open to students and staff in January.
Monteith says there are a number of factors behind the delay including weather, a brutal winter in 2017 and other project considerations.
He stresses they want to ensure they are well prepared, take the time they need and do everything right.
