The Firefly children’s aid agency is teaming up with the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board on a new program for the Red Lake area.
It’s called SPARK and will offer a variety of services for students with special needs.
Joan Kantola is the Superintendent of Education and says the Ministry of Education has approved a $420,000 budget for the program at Red Lake Madsen School.
Kantola says the program will be able to provide a wide variety of services including speech and language, occupational and physical therapy and mental health supports.
She notes they will start the program small but will look at expanding.
Kantola notes they will provide outreach supports to the other schools in Red Lake and Ear Falls.
