Big changes to the way Northern Ontario is going to be marketed for tourism.
The province has announced that it’s going to create 13 tourism marketing regions.
Northwestern Ontario will belong to a region stretching from the Manitoba Border to Sault Ste. Marie.
Tourism Minister Monique Smith says the tourism regions will be sharing $40-million annually to market themselves.
Smith says the government will also provide $25-million over 2-years for transitional funding to the new tourism marketing regions.
She adds while there have been some nay-sayers, she believes the marketing regions will help build the tourist industry.
