Jerry Dias hopes to use his new position as president of Canada’s newest, and largest, private sector union to turn the tide for Canada’s labour movement.
The Canadian Auto Workers union and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada have merged to form a new mega-union called Unifor.
Dias was elected with about 87% support at the union’s
founding convention in Toronto on the weekend.
He told delegates it’s time for labour to stop playing defence and to start setting the agenda.
