New Website For First Nations Youth

A new website is targeting Aboriginal youth who want to get involved in the mining sector.
The Oshki-Pimache-O-Win Education and Training Institute has partnered with Goldcorp, Cambrian College and Algoma Games for Health to develop Learning2Mine.ca.
E-Learning Coordinator Gordon Kakegamic says it includes a Facebook style game that features traditional and modern mining practice. The website also allows the person to create a job profile with a digital counselor, specifically targeted at what they’re interested in. Kakegamic says for example, if they were learning about working above ground instead of underneath, they could filter their profile around that.
While it may seem like fun and games, Kakegamic says it helps the youth understand the “mining lingo” so they can talk to their family and friends about it.
Learning2Mine.ca was also created with the help of North Caribou Lake First Nation, Sioux Hudson Literacy Council, Contact North and Creative eLearning Design.
