An anti-gang program run by the Nishnawbe-Aski Police is gearing up for Monday.
Project NorthStar is being run by constable Bobby McPhail, with support from the NAPS Guns and Gangs Unit and the Criminal Intelligence Analyst.
Sargent Jackie George explains the program.
“Project NorthStar will be targeted to the youth in the NAN communities that we serve, gangs tend to target youth at risk and this is also our target audience to receive the education, mentoring and protection through the project.”
The project will target youth between the ages of 10 and 17 years of age.
The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service serves 34 Fist Nation communities in the NAN Territory.
The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services Proceeds of Crime provided $100,000 of funding for the program.
Project NorthStar will run for 6 months.
