Travellers flying out of smaller airports in Northern Ontario will not have to worry about paying a new airport security tax.
Kenora-Rainy River M-P Bob Nault says the objective of the new fee is to pay the bill for enhanced security at larger airports, however those flying from smaller airports will not have to pay the extra fee.
Nault adds the government is confident that if the security tax does not cost as much as predicted, the fee would be reduced.
However Drydens Airport Manager is speaking against the tax.
George Friesen says the events of last September were not targeted against the air industry, and other sectors such as rail should also have to pay the security fee.
