Dryden residents can breathe a sigh of relief, there won’t be a by-election for the vacant Council seat left open by Mel Fisher’s resignation.
Council has flatly rejected the idea but is split on a method to replace Fisher.
Brian Collins is recommending going to the second place finisher in the May by-election.
Mary Trist and Martin MacKinnon are also on board, however Ken Moss, Sid Wintle and Mayor Craig Nuttall aren’t totally sold on the idea.
Collins says he would like to see a replacement in place immediatly after the position becomes officially vacant next Monday.
Collins says we just had an election three months ago and notes that’s democracy.
Shayne MacKinnon was the runner up in the by-election.
MacKinnon has told CKDR News that he would be willing to accept the job.
Mayor Craig Nuttall and Ken Moss both say they need more time to consider the options.
Nuttall notes that one former councilor has expressed interest in the position.
Sid Wintle suggested taking the second, third and fourth place finishers from the by-election and having them make a presentation to Council.
The issue will be debated next Monday.
