The Ontario Government is out with its funding allocation under the Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative and $587-million is being set aside to help end homelessness.
Henry Wall is the Chief Administrative Officer with the Kenora District Services Board and he says they will be receiving $753,100 per year for the next two years.
That’s basically the same amount the KDSB saw before.
Wall is relieved they didn’t see a drop in funding, but admits they could have used more as the cost to keep emergency shelters open continues to rise.
Wall says they will review their programming to determine where the money will go.
Last year the KDSB spent more than $577,000 on emergency shelter programming in Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and Kenora.
Wall says the remainder of the funds helped 95-households who were at risk of losing their homes or becoming homeless.
