NOHFC Helps Start Wood Pellet Facilities

The provincial government is investing in two projects to help Rentech Inc. a northern Ontario fibre company convert two idle wood product mills into wood pellet facilities.

4 million dollars in Northern Ontario Heritage Fund money is going towards the plants in Wawa and Atikokan.

The Wawa facility has already secured a sales contract with a UK based company for the production of wood pellets.

Atikokan will sell to Ontario Power Generation.

Wood pellets are being used to produce electricity in local and international power production facilities.
