NOMA Conference Resumes Today In Thunder Bay

A freezing rain storm in Thunder Bay scrapped a visit by Premier Kathleen Wynne at the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association Conference.

NOMA President Dave Canfield says they are still working on arranging a discussion with Wynne via video conference on Friday.

Canfield notes delegates want answers on a variety of issues including energy, tax assessments and softwood lumber.

He is also hoping to address Wednesday’s provincial budget.

The NOMA Conference continues today.

The morning session will include an update on tourism in northern Ontario as well as substance abuse issues in the region.

The softwood lumber industry and American tariffs will also dominate discussions.

The afternoon highlight is an anticipated visit from officials with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation regarding property taxes.

Forging cultural relationships and the impact of culture on our economy will also be discussed.
