NOMA Leader Pleased With Provincial Meetings

Municipal leaders in the region seem pretty pleased with their meetings this week with provincial cabinet ministers.

Wendy Landry is the new President of the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association and she feels they made some progress on a number of issues.

Landry says the government has decided to review the Endangered Species Act.

She says the existing legislation would have crippled the local forestry industry, and would have likely led to the closure of two area mills.

Landry says NOMA brought a report card with them to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario Conference in Ottawa to let the government know how they were doing on specific issues important to northwestern Ontario.

She notes one area they feel the government needs to work on is the Multi-Model Transportation Strategy, and making subsidies available to companies providing bus service in the region.
