Defence was on display in the second SIJHL Showcase game Tuesday in Fort Frances.
Michael Johnson scored in the second and Mitchell Soderberg netted the game winner in the third as the Thief River Falls Norskies clipped the English River Miners 2-1.
Spencer Milne replied for the Miners.
All three goals came on the powerplay.
The Norskies outshot English River 24-22, with Michael Lenko suffering the loss.
The win maintained the Thief River Falls 3 point lead for first.
The Miners face Thunder Bay Wednesday at 1:00.
