North Star Air has partnered with the North West Company to handle air freight delivery of food and everyday needs to nine remote Northern First Nations.
Company officials say the deal will ensure on-time delivery, the security of supply and overall service level improvements.
The partnership is also meant to improve the quality of life for aboriginal communities.
North Star Air will utilize a Basler BT-67 aircraft that is capable of flying and landing in extreme conditions and is fitted for ice, snow and land.
The communities impacted include: Bearskin Lake, Cat Lake, Deer Lake, Kashechewan, Muskrat Dam, Lansdowne House, North Caribou Lake, Poplar Hill and Sachigo Lake.
