Northern First Nation Distancing Itself

A First Nation near the remote Ring of Fire mining zone in
Northern Ontario says it is “investment-ready.”
But the Webequie First Nation says it will speak its own mind on future mining development on its doorstep.
The First Nation has distanced itself from a move by the Matawa First Nations group to challenge the way Ring of Fire development is being reviewed for possible environmental impacts.
Matawa has withdrawn its support of the Ring of Fire projects and wants a federal court to support its call for an independent review panel that would include oral hearings.
Chief Cornelius Wabasse says Matawa doesn’t speak for Webequie.
