Northern Minister Wraps up Tour

The Ontario government has wrapped up a 4-day tour of northern Ontario in which it announced close to $10-million in various investments to help the economy.

The McGuinty government has promised a growth plan for the North, with a draft proposal expected by the spring or summer.
Meantime, some people in Northwestern Ontario say they won’t be looking for a handout like the auto companies because they’re used to having to make do on their own during hard times.
Red Lake Mayor Phil Vinet says they’ve gone for so long without getting public assistance that it’s become a way of life.
Vinet says a gold-mining town like Red Lake can get through it.
