Northern MP Believes Recovery Programs Critical In Opioid Crisis

According to the MP for Thunder Bay-Rainy River, the growing opioid problem in Canada is a health care crisis of addiction, and shouldn’t be made criminal.

Don Rusnak says the focus should be more on recovery, instead of past governments putting people in jail, an approach he says needs to change.

Rusnak says they have to do a better job providing housing, support services, employment and counselling to recovering addicts.

He says the answers are multi-faceted, including making sure people don’t fall into addiction.
