The NDP is calling on the Ontario Energy Board to regulate the retail price and wholesale markup of gas in the province.
Timmins MPP Gilles Bisson is introducing a private member’s bill at Queen’s Park that would give the OEB the mandate to protect the interest of consumers by implementing predictable and consistent retail pricing of petroleum products.
Bisson says motorists in northern Ontario shouldn’t be paying more than those in the south.
He notes the same legislation did pass second reading during the last sitting of Parliament.
Bisson says the bill would ensure a fair return on investment for those in the business of moving and selling gas, while ensuring the public isn’t getting squeezed.
