Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle is pleased the government has decided to maintain all 11 northern ridings.
Gravelle says the provincial Liberals aren’t interested in following a federal lead by reducing the number of ridings to 10.
He stresses it will ensure effective representation for the north at Queen’s Park.
The recently approved legislation was first introduced by Premier Dalton McGuinty, but had to be brought into effect again during the most recent redistribution.
Northern Ontario once had 15-ridings.
