The Minister of Status of Women says ending violence against women is a priority for the federal Liberals.
The pledge was made during Friday’s Throne Speech.
Thunder Bay MP Patty Hajdu says the issue continues to be a reality for many Canadians.
Hajdu paid her respects at a vigil in Ottawa on Sunday, to honour the memory of the 14 women who were killed at École Polytechnique.
She says the government needs to take a close look at addressing social conditions that contribute to the violence.
