Northern Ontario Group #2

A new northern forestry group is urging the Ministry of

Natural Resources to change the way it issues wood

allocation licenses.

Dr. Peggy Smith is a Spokesperson for the Northern

Ontario Sustainable Communities Partnership, and says

municipalities need to have more control over harvesting

wood from area forests.

Q:”…Ontario.” 21 seconds

Smith adds they’ve been in discussion with industry and

the MNR about the current forest licnensing process.

The group is trying to grow support for their cause, and

so far 8 municipalities have endorsed their forestry

charter.
