Northern Ontario School Of Medicine Supports Indigenous Report

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine is looking at ways to strengthen relationships and polices with Indigenous people.

The school has received a final report penned by an Expert Panel on Indigenous Relations.

It contains 44 recommendations to deepen the relationships between NOSM and Indigenous Peoples based on trust and respect.

Vice-Dean Catherine Cervin says the school accepts all of the recommendations contained within the document to improve First Nations health and integration into educational and research programs.

Cervin notes some are short term, while many others will take a lot of time to implement.

She notes a number of the suggestions will require a lot of thought and consideration.

Cervin stresses Indigenous communities have been a big part of NOSM since the start of the school.
