Dryden has the dubious distinction of having the second highest price of apples and potatoes in Canada according to a recent healthy food survey from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
A recent study shows that the price of healthy foods in the region is at least $2 more than the national average.
Northern Ontario School of Medicine Spokesperson Dr. Greg Ross says the Government needs to take action to address the price disparities across Canada.
In Bearskin Lake First Nation, 4-litres of milk was nearly $16, compared to $3.50 in Vancouver and a package of whole wheat pasta was $8.68, compared to $2 in Barrie.
On the bright side, the price of 4-liters of 1% milk is cheaper in Dryden than in the rest of Canada.
