Number Of Forest Fires Down Considerably

This has no doubt been a very quiet forest fire season across northwestern Ontario.
The Ministry of Natural Resources says fire activity and area burned to date is about half the totals recorded by this time last year.
617 fires burned 94,234.7-hectares of land by September 13th, 2012.
This year there have been 347-fires with 41,523.8-hectares burned.
There were no new fires reported on the weekend and the fire hazard remains low in most parts of the area and moderate in the northwest sectors of Red Lake and Sioux Lookout.
