Several anglers in our area are paying the price for violating Ontario’s fishing regulations.
70 charges and 150 warnings were issued by Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers during an enforcement blitz on Rainy River during the first part of April.
Many of the charges related to fishing without a licence, possessing walleye over a prohibited length and importing live bait from Minnesota into Ontario.
Meantime, two men from Sioux Narrows have been fined a combined $1,500 for fishing violations.
Conservation officers spotted Jack and William Haas using barbed hooks and minnows for bait on Whitefish Bay in Lake of the Woods, which is against regulations.
