Seized Guns Handed Down From Generations

The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service says the recent spike in assault rifles seized in the far north can be explained.
Sergeant Jackie George says these weapons are generally passed down through generations
George says prior to 1998 a restricted licence allowed a person to purchase an AK-47.
She stresses those rules have changed and those weapons are now prohibited.
George says some firearms are still allowed and encourages anyone with questions to contact NAPS.
She notes it’s better if they come forward with questions then having an officer come to their door with a search warrant.
