The Registered Nursing Association of Ontario says the economic downturn will present some challenges and opportunities for their profession.
Nurses from across the region gathered in Kenora this week.
Mary Ferguson-Pare is a Past President and says one of the growth areas they see is for nurse practitioners.
She says with the loss of so many jobs in Northwestern Ontario, most nurses are staying on the job longer and are delaying retirement to support their families.
This is the first time nurses from right across the region have gotten together to talk about their profession and organizers are planning to hold a similar event next year.
