A coroner’s jury is expected to deliver its recommendations Friday in the inquest into the deaths of 2-aboriginal men in a jail in Northern Ontario.
The inquest has been listening to months of evidence in the deaths of Ricardo Wesley and Jamie Goodwin in the remote community of Kashechewan.
The jury has heard the January 2006 fire quickly tore through the reserve’s ramshackle police station, which didn’t have a working smoke detector, fire extinguisher or sprinkler.
The inquest has heard that for years, reports were sent by the local police and community leaders asking that improvements be made to the jail, but the requests were never granted.
