NWHU Funding

Funding is rolling in for the Northwestern Health Unit

and it’s programs.

A Public Health Nutritionist based out of Sioux Lookout

is part of a Canada wide Food Security Study.

Jennifer Maki was part of a Canada-wide team of

Dieticians who were awarded a 15-thousand dollar Canadian

Foundation for Dietetic Research Grant.

The study observes dieticians in diverse practice

settings, and record their thoughts on food insecurity.

Meanwhile, Fort Frances Health Unit staff have received

an 8-thousand dollar Communities in Action Fund Grant in

support of the KidSport program.

The funding will help enable disadvantaged kids to

participate in sport and recreation in the Fort Frances

area.

Finally, The Ontario Victim Services Secretariat

provided the NWHU with a 75-thousand dollar grant.

The money will be used to ensure regional sexual health

clinics are routinely screening for all types of abuse,

and extensive training for clinic staff.
