Barry Brisson

Barry Joseph Brisson
4 Oct 1962-28 July 2025

It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our brother, Barry Joseph Brisson in Calgary, Alberta. Barry was born in Dryden, the 7th child of Marven and Ruby Brisson.

He grew up on the family farm near Oxdrift but left for Calgary when he was only 18. There he attended the University of Calgary, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Barry’s career was mainly centered in the
oil and gas fields but He was also very much involved working to achieve fairness in business with First Nations. He was fiercely proud of his Cree heritage and taught in various capacities throughout Alberta. He received the Governor General Award in 2005, which recognized his achievements in that area as well as many other awards and medals.

In 1982, he married Debbie Astles, also from Dryden, and together they raised two sons, Matthew and Dustin on a “little piece of Heaven” in Bragg Creek, Alberta.

Barry was a talented man with many interests including woodworking, exercising, cooking, and reading voraciously. He suffered with a heavy health burden but remained upbeat and maintained an incredible sense of humour and strong faith in God throughout. Because of his illness, he had an empathy for those who suffer. Nothing eclipsed his love for his wife and his sons. The family would like to express our gratitude to Debbie Astles-Brisson for her undying care and service to Barry.

He was predeceased by his parents Marven and Ruby and brothers Danny and Guy. Left behind to remember, we remain, Linda, Lu, Kent Judy and Max.
