November 30, 1935 – August 5, 2026
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother Eleanore Eliza Allan (nee Delorme) on August 5, 2026.
Batter up!
Eleanore was born November 30th 1935 to Joe and Marie Delorme. A year later she welcomed a sister, Adeline, then followed her other siblings. You could say, it was a complete ball team!
1st Base – The First Inning
With only $100, a horse, and a covered wagon, Marie and Joe set off from St. Emilie Manitoba in 1938 with their two little girls, Eleanore 2 and Adeline 1 to begin a new life in Ontario. Often mistaken for gypsies, her family was met along the way with kindness and generosity as people offered their charity. This early lesson in love and generosity of others became a defining part of Eleanore’s life – a legacy she carried forth in all that she did and the many lives she touched.
2nd Base – Meeting her teammate and building her team
When Eleanore was 15, she took a job at Camp Durocher where she met her husband, Ted Allan. As she was very young, her mother told her she could marry once she turned 16. If you knew Eleanore, you know she was always in a hurry so the day after her 16th birthday, Dec 1, 1951 they were married in Quibell. Together they welcomed four children: Lynda, Greg, Grant and Gary.
3rd Base – Making Every Inning Count!
Family was incredibly important to Eleanore. Some of our fondest memories were made surrounded by people she loved. She hosted family fish fry’s at their lakeshore home on Sandy Beach Road. There were days spent playing baseball or Christmas gatherings at Waldhof Hall. Eleanore had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel whether it was a trip to Europe with her mom, Las Vegas with the sisters, Disneyland with Lynda and family, traveling to Alberta to cheer on granddaughter Kerry’s boxing match, going to Thunder Bay with granddaughter Samantha for The Price is Right, or more recently roaming the bushes for blueberries with her great grandkids Callie and Sawyer. She was always ready for the next adventure. She had a competitive spirit that came out in the best ways when playing cards or scrabble (if you ever questioned a word, within seconds she’d have her scrabble dictionary open proudly proving she was correct). She was an accomplished athlete and liked being active. She went white water rafting at 60+, shot a moose out hunting in her 70’s. She excelled at swimming, waterskiing, curling, bowling and of course baseball which she played until 60. She was a proud grandmother to four granddaughters and five great grandchildren. She cherished each one and took pride in watching them grow.
Home plate – Open the (pearly) gates, here she comes!
She ran the diamond but she was the diamond. You were an angel in the outfield – and off – in every life you touched. Now you are God’s angel in heaven.
Eleanore was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Marie Delorme, her son Gary and her husband Francis Grant Allan (Ted), her sister Adeline Bonthoux and brother Robert Delorme.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Lynda Konopski, granddaughter Bobby-Jo Haukeness (Brad), great grandchildren Brooke, Hunter and Jaxon, granddaughter Paddy-Gayle Weatherbie (Ryan) and granddaughter Kerry-Ann Konopski. Her son Greg Allan (Karen), granddaughter Samantha (Kristen), great grand children Callie and Sawyer Skramrud. Son Grant Allan (Wendy). Also survived by sisters Diane Beckman (Gordon), Yvonne Nault (Guy), Joann Caouette (Robert), Lucille Littlefield (Fred) and brother Harold Delorme (Karen) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Eleanore selected this quote, “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a Ride!’”
Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Mike Mahoney officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Huntington Society of Canada, 375 Hagey Blvd. Suite 114, Waterloo, ON N2L 6R5
