Giuseppina “Josie” Antoinette Reccia/Ricci
May 6, 1929 – June 6, 2022
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Mother and nonna. Giuseppina Antoinette Reccia / Ricci (nee Frantiello) on June 6, 2022.
Josie was born on May 6, 1929, to Rosa and Battista Frantiello, in San Angelo in Grotte, Italy and immigrated to Canada in April 1958 with her husband, Rocco, their two sons Louie, John and two daughters, Annina Taddeo and Antoinette Blanchard.
Her and her husband Rocco worked hard and opened their own business in Ignace in 1971, Rocco’s Supermarket and a pool hall.
The supermarket was a community hub, and Josie was everyone’s Mom. A loved member of the community with a big heart. Whoever came by the store always received a salami sandwich and a warm greeting.
She loved to crochet and knit, she made some beautiful outfits and blankets for her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She made the best blankets, and gave each grandchild many of them. They will always be treasured.
Josie loved to walk and spend every morning at the fitness centre. She would enamour the other gym goers with how small she was but how mighty her endurance was. She was fierce and strong! Being active was very important to her, her strength was unmatched.
Her biggest love and passion were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved hosting them at “Nonnas store” Cooking then breakfast, lunch, or dinner in the back kitchen. Meals that can’t be replicated but will be remembered forever.
Sunday dinners were a staple at her house. Josie was known for her amazing cooking, and wouldn’t let anyone go hungry. She was always helping out those who needed some love. She would fill their bellies and hearts. Her door was always open and there was always room at her table for others. There was no greater joy for her than feeding those she loved and helping others. If you were lucky enough to sit down for a meal with her, you would know how very special it was.
She was predeceased by her mother Rosa, father Battista, Sisters Maria Brunetti, Michelina Notte. Brothers, Donato and Saverio Frantiello.
Husband Rocco Gaetano Reccia, and worse heartbreak of her life, her son John.
She has left behind her children, Louie Ricci (Willoe), Bruno, Ricci (Rhonda) Tony Reccia and Rosa Harrington (Kirk) Annina Taddeo (Louie) and her dear friend/daughter Sue Ricci, her sister Teresa Frantiello (Mucciarone) and Erminia Mucciarone.
Grandchildren, Vanessa Ricci-Thode (Mike), Tano Ricci (Mariah), Olivia Ricci (Jay), Dustin Harrington (Jessie), Stefi Ricci (Mike), Daniella Van Ramshorst (Mitch), Sam Ricci (Jiboa), George Taddeo (Sue), John Taddeo (Lori) and numerous great grandchildren and nephews and nieces.
Nothing can fill the void of this great loss, but her memory will live on forever in her family and friends who knew her and loved her. She touched so many lives, and her legacy will live on.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ignace with Father Alan Campeau officiating. Interment to follow in the Ignace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Northern Critters in Need through the Dryden Community Funeral Home, 249 Grand Trunk Avenue, Dryden, ON P8N 2X3.
