Harald Karl Bembeneck
May 8, 1970 – April 4, 2021
Herbert, Roswitha and the Bembeneck family are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Harald Karl Bembeneck, Harald’s memory will be cherished forever by brothers Michael (LeeAnne), Ralf (Janet) and sisters Andrea (Bryan), Kristina (Steven), many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. The family immigrated from Germany in 1968 and Harald was born May 8, 1970 at the Dryden Regional Hospital. He grew up in Barclay before moving out to the lake with Mom and Dad, after his siblings had left home to start their own families.
Born with Autism, Harald was blessed with a loving, supportive family that was dedicated to ensuring his life was never lacking. While he certainly enjoyed his quiet time with movies and favourite toys, he was also always happy to be with his family. He found joy in camping, fishing, and working in the yard alongside his parents and siblings. Whether it was his infectious smile, a reluctant hug, welcoming handshake or his signature laugh, visits with Harald could certainly brighten your day.
Harald joined the community living program in 2018, taking up residence in the supportive living home on Anton Rd. Although it was a quite a change from the quiet, laid back life on the lake with Mom and Dad, he enjoyed becoming part of the Community Living family and all the new experiences the program offered. The workers made him feel comfortable in that transition and provided him with excellent care, for which the family will be forever grateful.
From the Community Living Staff – “Harald came into Community Livings care in 2018, and from day one the most apparent thing about him was his smile. He was a man of few words but spoke volumes with his kind gestures. He was bashful and full of adventure. He enjoyed going out with the staff and running errands for the house, having picnics at the park, and seeking treats through the drive through. From old-school movie days to downtown adventures to his contagious giggle. Harald was able to teach us all that patience is key and timing is very important. He will be deeply missed by all Community Living staff.”
In tears we saw you sinking,
We watched you fade away,
You suffered much in silence,
You fought so hard to stay.
You faced your tasks with courage,
Your spirit did not bend,
But still you kept on fighting,
Until the bitter end.
Ruhe in Frieden.
There will be a private family memorial at a later time and the Bembeneck’s would like to thank all those who made Harald’s life special.
