Karen Dawn Hewitson (nee Harrison)
December 31, 1958 – June 24, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karen Dawn Hewitson (Harrison) a truly one-of-a-kind woman who loved fiercely, gave selflessly, and lived loudly, unapologetically, and with her whole heart. She passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of strength, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Family was the center of her world. She was a devoted wife to husband John, a proud and loving mother to her daughters, Amy (Mack) and Emma (Austin). Her heart swelled with joy at becoming gramma to her beautiful grandchildren, Winry, Miles and bonus grandchild Sophia. She cherished every moment with her siblings Deke/Derrik (Brenda), David (Pixie), Darcy (Donna), Fritz/Frank and Jo-Anne. Adored her many nieces and nephews, Ashley, Melissa, Kristen (Shane), Bree (Brandon), Jen (Chris), Andrew (Kristen) and Christopher as well as many great nieces and nephews and was a constant, caring presence in the lives of those lucky enough to call her family or friend. Though she gave birth to two, she mothered many — offering guidance, comfort, and love to so many more than just her own.
She was loud, funny, and full of life — the kind of woman who made every room brighter just by walking into it. She was a fiercely loyal friend, deeply kind, and endlessly compassionate. She worked tirelessly in everything she did and went above and beyond for everyone. She was an active member of the community, vice president of The Royal Canadian Legion #63- organizing Legion meat draws, head of the poppy committee and always volunteering at the community table and church lunches.
Karen loved a cold beer and Clamato WITH ICE, especially when shared with friends and family. She always enjoyed a good party or bonfire, playing with her beautiful grandbabies or Wednesday lunch days with her best girlfriends, and “stitch-and-bitch” sessions that followed, where she’d work on her latest crochet or knitting project and catch up on the latest gossip.
She leaves behind a community that is better for having known her, and a family that will forever be shaped by her love, her strength, and her example.
She was a caregiver, a firecracker, a friend, a mama bear, and a force of nature. One of the strongest women you could ever meet. And she will be missed more than words can ever say.
The family would like to thank everyone for all the love and support during Karen’s battle this past month.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
