Louise Marie Hatfield

Louise Marie Hatfield (1965 – 2025)

Louise Marie Hatfield passed away peacefully of natural causes at her home in May 2025, at the age of 60. Born on March 28, 1965, in Dryden, Ontario, Louise was raised in Camp Robinson, where her family lived and worked along their trap line. She spent her early childhood on Cliff Lake, living at the Wonder Camp until 1970. These early years, surrounded by wilderness and family, left a lasting mark on her spirit and imagination.

Louise was a dreamer—someone who saw the world not only as it was, but as it could be. Her life was shaped by deep reflection, moments of solitude, and a strong sense of identity rooted in the North. Louise wanted to acknowledge two significant relationships in her life: her marriage to Dale Rousseau, who passed in 2002, and a meaningful partnership with Larry Cranston, whose presence was an important chapter in her story. She was predeceased by her infant sister Darlene (1968) and her brother Jimmy (1971). Her parents, James Henry Hatfield (2002) and Margaret A. Hatfield (née Veilleux, 2005), also preceded her in death.

Louise is survived by her two children, Kimberly Rousseau of Vermilion Bay and Rodney Rousseau of Toronto. She is also survived by her siblings: Wendy Lavers (Dale), Carol Hatfield, Nancy Hatfield, and Norman Hatfield, as well as extended family and friends who will remember her for her strong will and creative soul.

A memorial will be held at the Vermilion Bay Lions Hall at 12pm on Thursday, May 15th. In remembrance of Louise’s life, donations are welcomed to the Vermilion Bay Lions Club.
