Margaret “Peggy” Chasowy

Margaret “Peggy” Chasowy (nee Wilson)
May 4, 1933 – April 28, 2025
With heavy hearts the family of Peggy Chasowy announce her peaceful passing on April 28, 2025, with her family by her bedside in her home. She was 91 years old.
Born on May 4, 1933 in Dryden, she was raised in Ignace until her teen years when her family moved to Dryden. Dryden has been her home since. She has fond memories of her early years in Ignace where her father was the Repeater Operator for the railway.
After moving to Dryden, Peggy attended high school where the town hall stands now. She excelled at school and skipped two grades. Peggy spoke highly of Mr. Wood, the principle there at the time. Friendships were plentiful and good times were enjoyed at the “CanTeen”. It was there that she met the love of her life “Joe”, and they married on March 12, 1952 at the First Untied Church. Four healthy children were the result of this union.
At the young age of 16, Peggy began working for Canada Post until her retirement at the age of 70 (April 14, 2003). She found her work fulfilling and loved the job and the people she worked with and for. She also taught Sunday school at the United Church.
Predeceased by her husband Joe, daughter Carol and son Curtis. Her parents Arthur and Annie Wilson, mother and father-in-law, Nicholas and Annie Chasowy, as well as brothers Donald and Earl Wilson.
Survived by her sons, Nicholas “Nick” (Nancy) and David (Theresa) and daughter-in-law, Jane. Grandchildren Tara (Darren) Johnson, David (Jennifer), Brittany (Bryce), Jonathon, Brooke (Jeremy) Dawes, and Laura. Great-grandchildren Emily, Darion, Jordyn, Timber, Maggie, Dakota, Avery, Ethan, Sophia, Ellis, Lukas, Noah, and one more due this month. She also leaves behind sisters Bettianna Allin and Diane Hill (+ family).
Peggy loved life and loved people. It was said that she looked at the world through “rosy-coloured glasses”. Kindness, generosity, and honesty were her greatest attributes. The loss of her two children was devastating for her but she continued to pour her love into her remaining children and their families. She lived in her own home until her passing, with some assistance from her family and friends, but remained independent, even shoveling the snow from her walk in her 90th year.
Playing baseball, watching baseball and hockey, dancing, movies, swimming at Ghost Lake, lunch and coffee with friends and neighbours brought her joy.
Special thanks to Dr. Barrie, Melissa Sabko, Isabel and Glenda Johnson, special friends “Bud”, Holly, Lynda and so many others that brought joy to her life.
A recent message from a coworker and friend was particularly relevant when she said, “She was loved by so many people that heaven will have a fight on their hands trying to take her home.”
Keeping this thought in mind, please, in lieu of donations, spend time with your family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the First United Church with Jamie Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the Dryden Cemetery.
