Maria Teresa Tavares

May 19, 1928 – September 20, 2023

The family announces the passing of our beloved Maria Teresa Tavares, nee Teixeira, at the age of 95 years on September 20, 2023.
Maria was born on May 19, 1928 at Santa Barbara, Soa Miguel, Azores, Portugal.

She emigrated to Canada in 1957 and after moving around, settled in Dryden, ON. In her late years, she relocated to Sidney, BC.
Maris was a very industrious, talented, and family-oriented force of nature. She was an avid gardener, seamstress, chef, and a jack of all trades who lived her life of faith with grace.

She is survived by three daughters: Rose (Mario), Filomena and Cecilia (Allan), and grandchildren; Sandra, Dino, Teresa, Jason, Darcie, Jenny, Sarah, Paris, Paul, and Laura. Maria is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, two brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Maria was predeceased by her parents, all her siblings and beloved husband Luis.

Rest in peace Vavo, until we meet again.

A funeral service for Maria was held on Thursday, September 28, at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Sidney, BC. Cremation has taken place, and a private interment will be held at the Dryden Cemetery.
