Richard (Rick) Leslie Robert Schell
January 25, 1960 – March 14, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard (Rick) Leslie Robert Schell on March 14, 2025, at the age of 65. Rick was a loving father to his four sons—Derek, Darcy, Ryan, and Scott—and a proud grandfather to Alec Schell, Scott’s son. He was a devoted father who sacrificed so much to give his boys the best possible start in life, and his legacy of love, strength, and support lives on in them.

Rick dedicated his life to service, beginning his policing career in 1982. He served with distinction in communities including Weagamow First Nation, Walkerton, and Fort Frances, before joining the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) through amalgamation. His OPP career included postings in Fort Frances, General Headquarters, and the Orillia detachment. Rick was widely respected for his commitment to justice, his calm presence in difficult moments, and his unwavering belief in doing the right thing.

Beyond his police work, Rick was a passionate community leader. He served as President of Orillia Minor Hockey and led numerous charitable efforts supporting underprivileged youth. His tireless dedication to helping others left a lasting impact on his community.

Rick was more than his titles and accomplishments. He was a loyal friend, a beloved colleague, and a man known for his quick wit, generous spirit, and deep compassion. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A private family service will be held, with a public celebration of life to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rick’s memory to youth charities in Orillia, continuing his mission of lifting up the next generation.
